I actually dug a hole and filled with rocks and gravel and dumped oil in it until a friend of mine informed me that it was bad for the soil and the environment. It wasn't too many years after that when I could drop off my used oil at the local auto parts store. Last time I changed the oil on anything was my motorcycle this past December. - Alex Duckworth-Ford. Still kicking my heels.  Vic Long, aka: Coach Long once told me that Keiths is where a lot of the kids would go after football games. I think back then it was mostly CV and Sweetwater. ...

I found a soution if your car should ever get tire ants.  Apparently the ants throw the wheels out of balance.  Be sure to use an automotive grade of insecticide.

Here is a great way to clean your car's interior using the car's exhaust system.  It probably works best in a closed area.

My sister anad I used to fight over who would get to lay in the back window shelf of our old 46 Dodge on long trips.

To All,

I'm looking for someone in Geneseo, New York.  He is not in our group but I thought someone may know him.  Are you ready? Last Saturday morning, it was up to 12 degrees, I was walking on a nearly desertted sidewalk and I was wearing a hoodie that said SAN DIEGO across the chest.  A couple was coming towards me and the tall gentlman thrust his fist in the air and said, "Go San Diego."   Of course, I stop and asked him about his response.  "Oh, I grew up in a small suburb of San Diego...Chula Vista !!!!!"   And, I went to Chula Vista High School, I was a Spartan."   He said at the time Hilltop was just opening and he was given a choose as to what school he wanted to go to.  Well, this girlfriend at the time chose Hilltop and that was the end of the relationship.  Anyway, he had been in the Geneseo area for 16 years.  But, dang it, we failed to exchange names and numbers. I think Hilltop opened in 1960, so he is in our age group.  Did any of you Spartans have a tall friend that moved to central New York in 2002 or 03?  I know this is a longshot, but I had to ask.

In other news...

Tricia and I have started a small business based on a phrase that rolled out of my mouth a few years back that I have had  trademarked, "You Don't Outgrow Rock & Roll™"  We are starting with a few t-shirts with the phrase and a couple of full size guitar heads for starters.  But thinking big, we hope to either incorporate a logo into the shirts or  better yet license the words to companys in the music business like Fender Guitars, the Hard Rock Café, The Guitar Center, a big retailer, etc.  I will keep you posted.

Pete;

You pose an interesting search problem that may be solvable with Google and SPOKEO search engines.

SPOKEO keeps info on property ownership and past residence data.

You can perform the search assuming:

1.) Your target is a male age approx 74-80 who lived in CV and was a Spartan when HHS started in 1959

2.) He now lives in Geneseo and has for 16 years

3.) His residence is on a street near where you met him

Given these few assumptions, if you set a search in Google with only the words as follows:

Geneseo New York, Chula Vista, SPOKEO

You will get a list of male and female names that are for people that meet these conditions.   Some will not be the right age or live in Geneseo, so you can exclude them.  The list shrinks quickly based on only those now living in Geneseo ( which must be a small town ).  You can screen those you find by age to narrow the list.  You can also filter by nearness to where you met the gentleman and friend.

Doing this quickly I got the following names that might be candidates for our classmates to consider:

1.) Ian Riley - on Hillside Dr in Geneseo

2.) John A. Gillette - 76 in Geneseo

3.) Lowell C. Taylor - lives on Crossett Rd near South St.

4.) David Majewski - lives on or near Chestnut St

There were also several females that I dropped  based on the assumption the lady you met  said nothing about being from CV in the past.

You can repeat this search a few times to see if anymore names pop up for consideration.  Good luck in your search activities.

Maybe our CVHS or HHS site-mates recognize one of the above names ???

If you can provide anymore data that correlates with the couple, I may be able to add that into the search engines.  If you come back to me with any narrowing on the above set - we can use Whitepages to get more age or location data and a possible phone number - so you can call and confirm your meeting partners.

Terry,

Thank you so much for doing that search.  I didn't know where to start.  I will try to contact all of them and,of course, will let you know the results.

You Just Got to Hustle: 1940

December 1940. San Diego, California. "Three boys from Los Angeles who are looking for work. A friend who is already employed told them that they could make twenty dollars a week as laborers and they plan to save some money to go to school in hopes of getting in an airplane factory. The following conversation with their friend was overheard:

"You can go to work before noon tomorrow. Just go out where you see some work and apply."
"We can sure use the money."
"It's up to you fellows, you just got to hustle."
"We done plenty of that."

Good job, Pete. Still doing new and novel things and that was a brilliant idea with lots of potential. Meantime, Terry should have become a Private Eye. He has the chops for it! Duckworth-Ford

Good luck with the search scheme.

Did any of those I sent live near where you were walking?

Interesting how little info is needed to start a search for someone.   Imagine how the cops can narrow down suspects now with all the camera footage that is taken each day by the traffic monitoring cameras at intersections, etc.  Must make it difficult to be a criminal and avoid being picked up as a suspect.

Pete:

I reversed the order of Chula Vista and Geneseo in my search and got another candidate:

John P. Linfoot -78 , 65 2nd St

Also found Lowell C. Taylor on earlier list is deceased.

Also found address for John A. Gillette is on Lima Road - if that is any help in narrowing the list.

Just got a message from Bob Foster that he has not been getting any messages from this site since September.

Has anyone else had similar lack of communications?

I sent him this link for the site:

Jim;

Have you been able to connect ok for the past several weeks?

If you  can see this "Message Forum " page ok then things are working.  There has not been that much chatting going on for a month of so and that might be why there have been no messages coming out to our members.   This site only sends out a message when there is new activity.

As a first debug suggestion  - anyone having lost connection should try entering the link that I put in the last send in "red" and do a new sign-in.

Terry,

I just got back from the local library where they had a real phone book, current as well.  Unfortunately, none of the guys were listed.  The libraian told me that alot of people have dropped their land lines in favor of cell phones which are not listed in phone books.  It is possible he may live in another community as well.  We were also out in front of a University of Rochester Hospital blood collection lab and an H & R Block office.  He was probably headed into one of those places.  Thank you very much for the leads.  I will keep trying.

Peter

There's Lindekin and Facebook searches to try and twitter and Instagram and in general social media to search. Im my opinion, Facebook is a cluster. I've had an account for many years but each time I open it(like 5 times) I can't navigate through the garbage and people I've never heard of, etc. to get any use out of it. I don't see how that app survives? Alex

Jerry Hoover

Alex,

You are absolutely correct about Facebook.  The only reason I have an account is because when I was hiring people, I would look at their Facebook pages to glean information that may have been missed in the hiring process.  Particularly when I was bringing people to Afghanistan and Iraq.  I cancelled more than one person's employment offer based on what I found.  But for me, I keep my information off of Facebook.

First of all, Jerry, those dogs have personality and are great looking. And second, you used Facebook the way it should be used.  As one of my cousins involved in some way in security told me, she did not have an account. I think some of the agencies established shell accounts or something to look up targeted accounts to get that same kind of info you were able to glean from it. If I had extended my law enforcement career, I could have used it to find out more about some of the gang bangers I supervised while they were on Probation. I know the police utilize social  media that I don't even know exists to find out things in the manner you suggested.

By the way, did you or anyone you know use something called Picasa 3 to upload photos from a camera? I know most of it seems to come from cell phones these days with built in editing for Android and iphone platforms (OS), but some people still use cameras, especially professionals and prosumers. I a lamenting the fact that Google decided to stop supporting Picasa3 because I used it exclusively and could do everything from upload to edit to send, all within a few seconds. So far, I can't find anything to replace it. Meantime, my son built up a Lenovo T520 laptop for me. Since he's a Senior IT engineer, he did a great job of putting it together. Now the system (Windows7 Pro) is getting old and outdated. The mouse pad is worn smooth and the keys often have to be hit several times to get a letter to actually appear on screen. I should probably just get a new computer, but a keyboard costs about 36.00 plus tax but to save, I have to do the hardware removal/installation myself. I started out just prying keys off the board and using compressed air to blow them out. Doesn't always work completely. I'm not the hardest pounder, but I still remember and learned on a manual typewriter and old habits of pounding the keys never completely died out. CV Jr. HS is where I learned typing in 8th grade. I have the "Low Disk Space" warning pop up on my computer right now. I will order a new hard drive. I actually have formed a sort of attachment to this computer, like an old friend of sorts and just don't want to trade it in on a new one. I also a not crazy about the new operating systems that are out there and I don't need to support much if any of all the new applications that are out there. Those invade me enough as it is on my older Android Motorola cell.

Went from one thing to another and rambled. Thanks for your response re: Fbk.

Alex,

Go to walmart and get a logitech cordless keyboard and mouse combo for about $14. Look closely in the box to find the usb card it may be on the end flap as you open the box.

It will come with a USB card. Plug the card into the computer. Put the batteries in the keyboard and mouse and you are good to go.

Picassa 3 is what I use it still works it just isn't added onto by whoever.

You may have to re-install it.

Do you know how many gigs are left on your hard drive?

If you are running low on hard drive space there are ways to free up space. Google free up hard drive space.

We just returned from a unique adventure and I thought you might be interested  in some of the photos. These were taken as we entered the Schollart Channel in Antarctica. I thought all we'd see were icebergs...how wrong I was. Majestic mountains towered over those "icebergs" along the way.We saw several Orca's swim by Penguins were too far away but did see them on the Falkland Islands. I'll post a few more photos...
